Girls back to school after lockdowns - Campaign with Sofonie Dala. Don't miss it! Webisode 12

If you have a young child who is in primary school and who seems anxious about going back to school, try to talk to them as frequently as possible about school.

There are some young people who feel very anxious when school starts. These tend to be young people who experienced signs of anxiety prior to the coronavirus outbreak.

Our today's guest is Laura, she will share with us her experiences during covid-19 pandemic.

1. Introduction

My name is Laurinda De Carvalho. I am 22 years old, studying Physical-Biological Sciences in the 12 grade.

2. How has covid - 19 affected your student life?

Covid-19 affected me a lot because I stopped studying and doing other extracurricular activities, before the pandemic I was doing provincial trips but now everything is stuck.

3. Now that schools have reopened, have you gone back to school?

Now that the schools have reopened I am back to study, I am very happy because studying is better than staying at home doing nothing.

4. Has your school distributed any biosecurity materials?

My school didn't distribute any biosafety materials, we only have the school guard who measures our temperature daily, and we also have taps on the school's main gate and in the classroom to wash hands.

5. What are the prevention measures against covid - 19 you saw that the government/ school created to ensure your safety?

We must keep 1 meter of distance inside the classroom and must not have any kind of contact with colleagues such as kisses and hugs. I didn't see the government sending any biosecurity material to the school.

6. How do you feel? Are you enjoying going to class or you are scared?

I am really enjoying going to school, but of course I am also very scared since Covid-19 is a very dangerous and easily transmitted disease. I'm scared, I don't want to be sick.

Turkey has in the past and as recently as last January experienced major earthquakes that have claimed thousands of lives. Some buildings have been reported to have collapsed and the count is still on as current figures hover around 20.

The government has mobilized all respective institutions and personnel to rescue the situation with urgency and diligence. People have been pulled out alive from the rubble, however injured.

People have been warned by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) to stay away from their homes in light of visibly damaged buildings.
A secondary earthquake is likely to occur and could cause more collapse to already damaged buildings.

According to Boğaziçi University’s Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute, “ the secondary earthquake could be up to 5.8 magnitudes and a strong tremor might knock down already damaged buildings”, Doğan Kalafat the Kandilli Observatory Manager noted.

Italian village will pay you £40,000 to move and live there for at least five years

ANOTHER Italian village is offering you money to move there - and you could be paid up to £40,000.

Italian village will pay you £40,000 to move and live there for at least five years

Not only that, there’s also the offer of much cheaper rent when living in the hilltop village two hours from Rome.

The small village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio is trying to encourage more people to move and work from the settlement.

The deal includes a monthly wage for the first three years, up to the value of €8,000 (£7,200) per year – working out to just over £21,000.

A one-off grant of €20,000 (£18,000) will also be given for anyone starting a new business that helps the town, such as in the food or service industry.

While the deal also includes a deal on a rental property, this is yet to be established regarding how much new locals would pay.

The only catch is you must be able to become a resident of Italy, and be under 40. You must also live there for at least five years.

It isn’t the same as the €1 houses often advertised in Italy, according to the Mayor Fabio Santavicca.

He told CNN Travel: “We’re not selling anything to anyone — this isn’t a business move. We just want to enable the village to continue to live.”

There are currently just 115 people living there, with more than half of them pensioners and less than 20 are kids under the age of 13, according to CNN.

More than 1,500 have applied since it was announced earlier this month, but lucky applicants are likely to be young couples, according to Mr Santavicca.

Sounds ideal? You have to be quick as the offer closes November 15.

Girls back to school after lockdowns. Campaign with Sofonie Dala. Webisode 11

The past two decades have been marked by outstanding gains in girls’ education worldwide, with the number of girls out of school dropping by 79 million. We cannot risk rolling back this progress. For some children, the impact of COVID-19 will be temporary. But for others, this pandemic will be devastating and will alter the course of their lives.

There is a need to intensify community mobilization and support for girls’ education, including for pregnant girls and those who were out of school before the COVID-19 crisis.

Our today's guest is Benita, she finally went back to school and wiil share with us her school observations.

1. Introduction

Good afternoon! My name is Benita Paulo, I'm 11 years old, studying in the sixth grade and I'm Angolan.

2. How has covid - 19 affected your student life?

The coronavirus pandemic surprised me, I lost contact with my colleagues and teachers, this situation made me sad. Despite everything, I studied at home.

3. Now that schools have reopened, have you gone back to school?

Thanks God, my school reopened and I went back to study.

4. Has your school distributed any biosecurity materials?

Unfortunately, my school did not distribute any biosecurity materials.

5. What are the prevention measures against covid - 19 you saw that the government/ school created to ensure your safety?

Wash hands with soap and water, disinfect hands with alcohol gel, make the use of masks constantly and measure body temperature with a thermometer.

6. How do you feel? Are you enjoying going to class or you are scared?

I am very happy, because Covid-19 didn't prejudice my health.

During Covid-19 lockdowns, schools were closed, and many girls were at home, making them more vulnerable to child marriage. Informal workers have lost their livelihoods and there is a higher chance of them marrying their underage daughters to reduce the number of mouths to feed.

We are inviting you to run ''Back-to-school campaigns'' that include targeted messages for communities and caregivers to actively engage them in supporting girls going back to school. Messages must be contextualized, culturally relevant, and effective at changing pervasive and harmful gender norms that hold girls back.

Covid-19: Vendors disrespect sanitary measures

Several market vendors in the Cangambo neighborhood, Malanje city, including street vendors, continue to carry out their activities during unauthorized days and outside the commercial area, in disobedience to the Presidential Decree on the State of Calamity.

The current decree, which came into force on October 24, determines Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for sale in the markets.

In a round carried out by Angop, in the aforementioned market, the largest in the province, it was noted numerous people, among sellers and buyers, neglecting the physical distancing, putting themselves at risk of contagion of Covid-19.

Some sellers, who spoke under anonymity, said that the fact that there are stores and warehouses of wholesale and retail goods, open in the peripheries of the market, has influenced this practice, since the sellers take advantage of the days when the informal markets are closed to raise awareness of the violation of the rules of prevention of the Covid-19.

Yolanda Mote, spokesperson for the Provincial Commission for Response to Covid-19, calls on citizens to continue to prioritize biosecurity measures in order to avoid contagion of the disease.

Covid-19: Judge in Angola wants change of mentality

The presiding judge of the Cuando Cubango Provincial Court, Jones Paulo, Wednesday, here defended the change in mentality regarding the strict compliance with the preventive measures against Covid-19, aimed at stopping the spread of the new coronavirus.

"We are in a difficult and troubled moment from the point of view of public health, because we are witnessing, on a daily basis, the steep rise of positive cases of Covid-19, which leads us, once again, to call for a change of mentality, in order to prevent the spread," the magistrate pointed out.

The judge of law made these specific considerations when speaking at the opening of the 3rd ordinary meeting of the Provincial Commission for Judicial Coordination, which covers the third quarter of 2020 and discusses, among other issues, the criminal situation in the territory of Cuando Cubango.

It should be noted that the Multi-sectoral Commission for Combating and Preventing Covid-19 in Cuando Cubango carried out a survey last weekend in Menongue, the provincial capital, of the health fences in the Futungo, Azul, 45 Casas and 23 de Março neighbourhoods, without, however, any positive cases.

Mirko Macai, spokesman for the Provincial Multi-sectoral Commission for Combating and Preventing Covid19 in Cuando Cubango, said Tuesday that the three new positive cases, reported in Luanda on Saturday, were epidemiologically linked to the first case registered in the province, which ended in death.

The second panel reserves the right to approach the theme, "How the result of the survey may contribute to future Financial Inclusion policies," a topic that will have experts from the National Bank of Angola, the Angolan Banking Association and the National Statistics Institute as speakers, moderated by the Executive Secretary of the National Financial Stability Council.

The purpose of this video-conference is to address the results of the above-mentioned survey and collect contributions to help the financial system regulators and stakeholders in the continued implementation of the national financial inclusion strategy.

Jay-Z to venture into America’s $130bn cannabis industry with his own brand

The marijuana industry in the U.S. is booming and attracting some of the world’s renowned celebrities and business owners. The industry is estimated to pomp up to $130 billion on an annual basis into the U.S. economy by 2024, according to Marijuana Business Factbook.

Marijuana Business Factbook further estimates legal cannabis sales increased from $38 billion-$46 billion in 2019 to $106 billion-$130 billion by 2024 – a 181% increase. And according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the $130 billion figure is similar to the 2019 gross domestic product of Nebraska’s $129 billion.

The profitable nature of the cannabis business has caught the attention of billionaire rapper Jay-Z. Born Shawn Carter, the 22-time Grammy award winner and business mogul recently launched his own cannabis brand, Monogram, in collaboration with the largest vertically-integrated cannabis company in California, Caliva. Prior to launching his own cannabis brand, the African American had served as Chief Brand Strategist for Caliva since July of 2019.

A press statement from the brand says Monogram seeks to “redefine what cannabis means to consumers today. In an effort to provide a more tailored customer experience, the brand will also launch through a best in class e-commerce platform dedicated exclusively to its singular product line.”

According to Monogram’s website, the flower is grown in small batches, “allowing for every plant to receive personalized attention from our expert growers.” It adds that “Our batch-by-batch approach and unique potency designation allow us to highlight the nuances in between harvests and tell you the story of every flower.”

Monogram says it has assembled a board of cannabis experts who grade and select every flower by hand. “These luminaries have developed a program of extended humidity control, post-harvest care, trimming and flushing that guarantees our finished product is the best it can be,” it says.

Customers are encouraged to sign up by email to be “first in line for the drop” on the website.

Monogram is the latest of Jay-Z’s businesses. The musician first ventured into business when he launched his clothing line called Rocawear in 1999 and later founded a sports bar chain called the 40/40 Club in 2013. In 2015, he acquired the tech company called Aspiro and also launched Tidal, a music streaming services.

Jay-Z also has a stake in French audio tech firm Devialet. The tech firm recently launched wireless earbuds, called Gemini, to rival Apple and Samsung’s dominance in the wireless earphones market.

The rapper is not the only famous name to venture into the cannabis industry with it being legalized in several US states. Others include Snoop Dogg, Whoopi Goldberg and Martha Stewart.

UK Govt scientists predicts second Covid wave could be more deadly than first

UK government scientists have predicted that, the second Covid-19 wave could be even deadlier than the first with a “lower but longer peak.”

Downing Street is supposedly working on the assumption that the death toll during the second wave this winter is going to be worse than that experienced by Britain in the spring.

The death rate is set to peak at a lower overall number than seen earlier in 2020.

However, deaths are set to stay at the same level for weeks or even months on end.

If the analysis of the second wave is correct, it will mean that the coronavirus death toll could stay steady for longer than it did in March and April.

And gloomy scientists say all of England will need to be under severe tier three Covid restrictions by mid-December.

It has dashed Boris Johnson’s hopes of a Christmas reprieve from lockdown rules.

Meanwhile, a police chief has warned cops will be able to burst in on festive family gatherings if Covid rules are being broken.

A source told the Telegraph: “It’s going to be worse this time, more deaths.

“That is the projection that has been put in front of the Prime Minister, and he is now being put under a lot of pressure to lockdown again.”

The analysis from Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) has caused government advisors to push Boris Johnson to take more drastic measures to control the virus.

The Sun has also revealed that the latest government modelling overseen by chief scientist Sir Patrick Vallance shows more than 25,000 will be in hospital with the virus by the end of November.

This comes as Britain has suffered its highest daily Covid death toll for more than five months yesterday – after 367 more people lost their lives to the virus.

Yesterday was the darkest day for fatalities since May

Covid-19: Governor calls for greater individual responsibility

Sumbe - The governor of Cuanza Sul province, Job Capapinha, Wednesday in Sumbe adviced the population in the region to a greater individual responsibility in order to minimize the transmission of Covid-19.

The advice of the governor, who was speaking at the meeting of the Provincial Commission for Response to Covid-19, comes as a result of the fact that in the period 14 to 26 October the province has diagnosed four new cases, two in the municipality of Sumbe and the same number in Porto Amboim, with one dead.

"We cannot underestimate the guidelines given by the Government for the preservation of more lives, for this reason we must continue to raise awareness among politicians, churches, scholars, traditional authorities, youth (...) that the disease is real and can decimate millions of people", he said.

Job Capapinha stressed that the measures are well known and can be within the reach of every citizen, because "death is imminent, it does not choose anyone and if we do not respect it, we will continue to bury many citizens".

He urged the raising of the conscience of each of the citizens to, once again and with sacrifice, stop the Covid-19.

He praised the United Revolutionary Youth (JURA), the youth arm of Unita, for the speeches and the awareness campaign that it has carried out to protect itself more and more.

Covid-19 : Angolan health minister discourages trips

Angolan Health minister Sílvia Lutucuta Tuesday advised people to refrain from unnecessary travels both locally and abroad on account of the prevailing dangerous epidemiological situation.

The minister was speaking in Dundo city, at the end of a working visit to northeastern Lunda Norte province.

According to Silvia Lutucuta, the positive cases of Covid-19 have been on the rise, representing a high public health danger, hence the need for people to stay at home.

"Don’t travel unnecessarily. You should only travel in situations of health, extreme need and pressing service trip as recommended by the Presidential Decree,” said the minister.

She appealed to the media organs to continue promoting contents that help raise awareness among citizens, encouraging them to strictly abide by announced prevention measures.

Lunda Norte province has 71 people in home quarantine, having reported one positive case since recovered.

Covid-19: Angola with 203 new infections, 46 recoveries
