Lamine Yamal Nets First World Cup Goal as Spain Break Through Against Saudi Arabia

Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal has opened his World Cup account, scoring Spain’s first goal of the tournament in their clash with Saudi Arabia on Sunday in Atlanta.

The breakthrough came after Mikel Oyarzabal surged down the left flank following a Saudi turnover. His driven low cross skidded across the six-yard box, finding Yamal at the back post, where the teenager slid in to finish from close range.

It was a crucial strike for La Roja, who had been held scoreless in their opener against Cabo Verde — one of the early surprises of the competition, though not in Spain’s favor.

Yamal, who will celebrate his 19th birthday during the tournament, is already building an extraordinary résumé. He scored in Spain’s triumph over France at EURO 2024, has three La Liga titles and a Copa del Rey with Barcelona, and finished as Ballon d’Or runner-up in 2025.

Now, with his first World Cup goal, the rising star has added another milestone to his growing legacy, giving Spain momentum as they chase glory on the global stage.

Angola May Host Ukrainian Children Affected by War in Cultural and Educational Program

Angola and Ukraine are exploring the creation of a cultural and educational exchange program aimed at children from regions near the frontlines of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Angola’s Foreign Minister, Tete António, Ukraine’s ambassador to Angola, Andrii Kasianov, and the executive director of the American School of Angola, Marcos Agostinho.

The initiative, humanitarian in nature, seeks to provide war‑affected children with a period of shelter in Angola, offering educational, cultural, recreational, and sports activities in a safer environment that promotes emotional stability.

According to the parties involved, the program is part of efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries and foster human connections through shared experiences among children, communities, and institutions. The American School of Angola expressed readiness to contribute to the educational component, highlighting the role of schools in integrating children and young people into multicultural contexts.

The meeting also addressed the progress of a project to build three medical centers in Angolan provinces, supported by the Ukrainian government to improve access to healthcare. Another topic discussed was the creation of a mural in Viana, Luanda, as a symbol of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, with the involvement of the Miss Angola Committee, represented by its president, Teresa Sara.

Ambassador Kasianov emphasized that the cultural and humanitarian exchanges under preparation could pave the way for new forms of bilateral cooperation. He noted that both countries agreed to deepen collaboration in the energy and agriculture sectors. Among the proposals was Ukraine’s plan to organize a thematic exhibition at Angola’s Armed Forces Museum, dedicated to the participation of Ukrainian peacekeepers in UN missions during Angola’s civil war.

Kasianov concluded that such initiatives help preserve shared memory and consolidate relations based on trust, cooperation, and closer ties between peoples.

Klose Hails Messi: "The Greatest Footballer of All Time

Miroslav Klose has paid glowing tribute to Lionel Messi after losing his long‑held status as the top scorer in FIFA World Cup history. The German legend, who netted 16 goals across World Cup finals, was surpassed by Messi during the 2026 tournament.

Messi equaled Klose’s record with a hat‑trick against Algeria and then moved ahead with a brace in Argentina’s 2–0 victory over Austria, bringing his tally to 18 goals. Speaking to German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, Klose was full of admiration:

“Lionel Messi is, for me, the best football player of all time. Congratulations, champion!”

The former striker admitted he had anticipated his record would eventually fall during this World Cup and expressed delight that it was Messi who achieved the feat:

“It’s all good. The record was bound to be broken sooner or later, and I’m happy Messi did it. I’ve always been a big fan of his.”

At 38 years old, Messi has already scored five goals in this tournament, further cementing his legendary status. His performance against Austria not only secured Argentina’s progression to the knockout stage but also added another historic milestone to his illustrious career.
