UN recognises Angola´s leadership in peace processes in Africa

Luanda - The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, expressed his recognition for the leadership and commitment of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, regarding promotion of peace and security in Africa.



In a statement, António Guterres highlighted the João Lourenço´s commitment to dialogue and harmony in the Central and Great Lakes regions.

 

In the letter, the UN secretary-general said the organisation is open to supporting the Angolan President´s efforts and to work closely with him.

 

In the document, which aims to congratulate the Angolan Head of State on his investiture as President of the Republic, the UN leader also expressed his willingness to work with the Angolan government and people.

 

This is a joint work focused on the implementation of Angola´s priorities and desires in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.

 

Through his message, António Guterres reiterates his high regard for the long-standing partnership between the United Nations and the Republic of Angola and pledges his commitment for the continuing of the strengthening.

Over 10 theatre groups participate in International Festival in memory of Agostinho Neto

 Lubango – At least 12 theatre groups from Luanda, Huambo, Namibe and Huíla are participating since Saturday until October 2 in Lubango City, southern Huila Province, in the 7th edition of the International Festival of Scenic Arts, as part of the centennial celebrations of the first President of Angola, Agostinho Neto.



The cultural event is taking place under the aegis of the International Theatre Circuit (CIT), in partnership with the local government bringing together several groups.

 

During the sessions, messages are being passed that highlight the memories of the "Greatest Poet" and founder of the Angolan nation.

 

Speaking at the opening act of the, the general director of CIT, Adérito Rodrigues, said the activity is part of a project called "culture for all", a platform of artistic action and youth movement for empowerment and training of Angolans released in 2016.

 

According to the official, the theatre festival will also promote the values of culture, through the composition, staging and exhibition of performing arts plays.

 

"We speak today of Agostinho Neto, one of the most fearless history makers, a figure of universal dimension whose stature, covering the Angolan nation, is projected into the world to become a common heritage of humanity" Rodrigues said.

 

He recalled that the 7th edition is being celebrated from May to September having the Centenary of Agostinho Neto the main focus.

12 citizens arrested over violence incitement against State

 Cacuaco – At least 12 Angolan citizens have been arrested by the National Police (PN) and the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), in Luanda, accused of incitement to violence, rebellion and insult against the Angolan State, its symbols and organs.



Several denunciations and complaints from the population about the dissemination of videos, audios and texts through several digital platforms, with contents punishable by law, contributed to the arrest of the alleged criminals.

 

Speaking to the press, the chief superintendent of the SIC, Manuel Halaiwa, said that a set of operational actions were developed that allowed the identification of the individuals, underlining that the detainees acted singlehandedly and also in groups, with the purpose of disseminating insecurity, panic and hatred amongst the population.

 

Among the accused,the Police chief highlighted the arrest of the 30-year old digital influencer, Ana da Silva Miguel "Neth Nayara", who incited her private security guard to shoot an AKM-type firearm for no apparent reason.

 

According to the Police spokesman, two individuals who were trying to leave the country for Spain, with a fake travel visa, were also arrested by the criminal at Luanda  International Airport.

 

The police chief added that a 30-year-old Vietnamese citizen was also arrested accused of trafficking ivory and rhino horn, while he intended to leave Angola for Dubai.

 

The Vietnamese citizen was carrying 26 kilograms of ivory worked into bracelets, necklaces, beads, as well as elephant tails, the police chief explained.

 

The perpetrators have already been presented to the Public Ministry for criminal accountability.

Angola U-23 thrash Namibia, continue in CAN qualifier "race"

 Luanda - Angola Under-23 national football team qualified Saturday in Luanda for the last round qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN2023) to take place in Morocco, after thrashing Namibia 6-0, in the second leg, played at Luanda’s 11 de Novembro Stadium.



The goals of the Angolan Olympic team were scored by Benvindo (5'), Ben Arfa (23'), Capita (29'e 77'), Bito (45') and Melono (84'). 

 

The match attended by the minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, and the governor of the Province of Luanda, Manuel Homem, qualified the Angolan team for the last elimination round of the CAN competition.

 

The Namibian team also played the second match in Luanda, due to the ban on their stadium by the Confederation of Africa Football over lack of technical conditions.

 

Angolan won the first leg-encounter by 2-0.

 

Angola face Cameroon in the next round round.

 

The CAN2023, in Morocco also qualifies for the Olympic Games of Paris2024.

Angola calls for mobilization of resources for developing countries

 Luanda - Angola defended that the “Group 77+ China” should continue to call on developed countries to meet their commitment to mobilize financial resources to support developing countries.



It is about a financial resources support of at least USD 100 billion for the developing countries in actions related to mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

 

Angola´s request is expressed in a note from the Permanent Mission of Angola to the UN in New York, United States of America.

 

While speaking in the 46th Annual Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers of the Group 77+ China, the ambassador of Angola, Maria de Jesus Ferreira, stated that the financing should take into account the developing countries priorities.

 

For Maria de Jesus Ferreira, it is important that the financing take into account the needs of the developing countries in the scope of the 2030 Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals and its objectives.

 

She went on to say that Angola acknowledges the special challenges and needs faced by all the developing countries, particularly African countries, Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.

 

The diplomat added that the impact of the covid-19 pandemic, the protracted conflicts and crisis in different parts of the world takes place in the context of a total crisis of climate emergency.

 

In her speech, the ambassador Maria de Jesus Ferreira said that Angola gives Great importance to the value of the solutions  based on dialogue and consensus to achieve international peace, security and development.

 


The ambassador took the opportunity to highlight the progress and experienced challenges, since the adoption of the Algiers Charter and encouraged the Member States to carry out monitoring activities.

 

Maria de Jesus Ferreira emphasised the need for the Group 77+ China to keep itself committed to the aspirations, principles of unity, complementarity, cooperation and solidarity.

 

In Friday's meeting (23) a Ministerial Declaration was adopted.

 

Currently Pakistan leads the Group 77+ China and Cuba will take over the presidency in 2023.

 

The Group 77+ China is a coalition of developing nations which aims to promote collective economic interests from its members and create greater joint negotiating capacity within the United Nations (UN).

 

The Group was founded on 15 June 1964.
