Angola calls for mobilization of resources for developing countries

 Luanda - Angola defended that the “Group 77+ China” should continue to call on developed countries to meet their commitment to mobilize financial resources to support developing countries.



It is about a financial resources support of at least USD 100 billion for the developing countries in actions related to mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

 

Angola´s request is expressed in a note from the Permanent Mission of Angola to the UN in New York, United States of America.

 

While speaking in the 46th Annual Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers of the Group 77+ China, the ambassador of Angola, Maria de Jesus Ferreira, stated that the financing should take into account the developing countries priorities.

 

For Maria de Jesus Ferreira, it is important that the financing take into account the needs of the developing countries in the scope of the 2030 Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals and its objectives.

 

She went on to say that Angola acknowledges the special challenges and needs faced by all the developing countries, particularly African countries, Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.

 

The diplomat added that the impact of the covid-19 pandemic, the protracted conflicts and crisis in different parts of the world takes place in the context of a total crisis of climate emergency.

 

In her speech, the ambassador Maria de Jesus Ferreira said that Angola gives Great importance to the value of the solutions  based on dialogue and consensus to achieve international peace, security and development.

 


The ambassador took the opportunity to highlight the progress and experienced challenges, since the adoption of the Algiers Charter and encouraged the Member States to carry out monitoring activities.

 

Maria de Jesus Ferreira emphasised the need for the Group 77+ China to keep itself committed to the aspirations, principles of unity, complementarity, cooperation and solidarity.

 

In Friday's meeting (23) a Ministerial Declaration was adopted.

 

Currently Pakistan leads the Group 77+ China and Cuba will take over the presidency in 2023.

 

The Group 77+ China is a coalition of developing nations which aims to promote collective economic interests from its members and create greater joint negotiating capacity within the United Nations (UN).

 

The Group was founded on 15 June 1964.
