Pride - Embrancing diversity. LGBTQ in Angola. Day 4

 Good morning everyone!

Welcome to the penultimate webisode of this edition!

Despite the fact that people in the LGBT community are fighting for equal rights and acceptance and, looking at all the interviews we have already done, it is possible to perceive that Christians categorically do not accept the existence of LGBTQ people in our society.

Angola has decriminalized homosexuality. What's your opinion?

Discrimination is still present in Angola, where LGBT+ people often face rejection from their families and forced opposite-sex marriages. LGBT continues to be a contentious matter for several major religions of the world. Many members of the LGBT+ community have been discriminated against directly by the Church.

The original teachings of all churches prohibit sodomy. They condemn homosexual activity as sinful.

We have zero-tolerance for discrimination and does not discriminate on the basis of  race, colour, national origin, ethnic or social background, genetic information, gender, gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, religion or belief, HIV status or disability.

Stay tuned, the sequel follows..

Sadio Mane Wins 2022 African Player of the Year

The forward capped a stunning year with his second African Player of the Year crown, beating off competition from Salah and Mendy.

The forward capped a stunning year with his second African Player of the Year crown, beating off competition from Salah and Mendy.

It is the Senegal international’s second African Player of the Year title as he becomes the fifth African after El Hadji Diouf, Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure, and Salah to win the award in consecutive years since Caf took over the distribution of the award in 1992.

Having been recognised as the best player on the continent, he is now two triumphs short of Eto’o and Toure – who both won the prize a record four times.

Before heading for Bayern Munich in a €41 million (£35m/$43m) transfer, Mane enjoyed a superb 2021-22 season with Liverpool – helping them win the FA Cup and Carabao Cup as well as playing a crucial role in their Uefa Champions League runners-up finish.

He scored 16 Premier League goals, two in the FA Cup and five in the Champions League. Overall, he accounted for 33 goals and five assists in the period in review.

On the international scene, Mane propelled the Lions of Teranga to win their maiden Africa Cup of Nations – scoring the crucial penalty that downed Egypt inside Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, locking up the victory after a 0-0 draw through 120 minutes.

The 30-year-old was impressive throughout the tournament, contributing three goals and two assists to win the Player of the Tournament.

His contributions were also key in helping the West Africans qualify for the 2022 Fifa World Cup after defeating Salah’s Pharaohs over two legs.

Elsewhere, Senegal and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr picked the Young Player of the Year award ahead of Hannibal Mejbri (Tunisia & Manchester United) and Karim Konate (Cote d’Ivoire & ASEC/RB Salzburg).

U.S President, Joe Biden Says He Has Cancer?

The U.S. white House has clarified President Joe Biden’s statement that he has cancer, saying he was referring to a skin cancer diagnosis he received before becoming president which has been remedied.

On Wednesday, July 20, the US President spoke in Somerset, Massachusetts, in a press conference about global warming.

During his speech, Biden recalled the “toxins, smog, and greenhouse emissions” and how they affected his hometown of Claymont, Delaware.

In a shock statement describing his experiences with oil refinery emissions Biden told the crowd: “That’s why I and so damn many other people I grew up with have cancer and why for the longest time, Delaware had the highest cancer rate in the nation.”

However, White House spokesman Andrew Bates said the president was referring to non-melanoma skin cancers that were removed before he assumed office.

A summary of the president’s health released in November said Biden had “several localized, non-melanoma skin cancers removed” prior to his presidency, adding there were not any “areas suspicious for skin cancer at this time.” No biopsies were required, it added.

“This is what the President was referring to,” Bates said on Twitter.

Back in 2021, Biden’s health summary revealed his physician Dr Kevin O’Connor performed an operation to remove non-melanoma skin cancers.

However, the report blamed Biden spending time in the sun, rather than exposure to chemicals used by the oil industry.

Biden said ‘that’s why I and so damn many other people I grew up with have cancer’

Covering up the gaffe, White House spokesman Andrew Bates referred to a tweet from Washington Post columnist Glenn Kessler, who noted Biden had “non-melanoma skin cancers” removed before he took office.

A report published on November 19 stated: “It is well-established that President Biden did spend a good deal of time in the sun in his youth.

“He has had several localised, non-melanoma skin cancers removed with Mohs surgery before he started his presidency.

“These lesions were completely excised, with clear margins.”

Additional details from the report read: “Total body skin exam was performed for dermatologic surveillance.

“Several small areas of actinic change were treated with liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, but there are no areas suspicious for skin cancer at this time.

“Dermatology consultation is reviewed and appreciated. No biopsies were required.”

Nigerian National Arrested Over $6.5 million “Teak Wood” Scam

A Nigerian criminal syndicate led by one Sunny Anwamini (Sam) has been arrested by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for defrauding a Ukrainian businessman to the tune of $6.5 million.

The suspect, Sunny, 52 was apprehended on Wednesday, July 20 by EOCO in an intelligence led operation in partnership with the state National Security.

According to deep throat sources at EOCO, the suspect met his victim (Mazen Farakh), in December 2018 in Ghana during which the the latter expressed interest in purchasing expensive wood pieces known as “Teak”.

Sam after receiving the sum of $6.5 million from the Uknrainian businessman sent photographs of fake pallets of teak stored in custom bonded warehouses and promised to get the goods delivered in Ukraine.

However, Mazen Farakh in his statement at EOCO disclosed that Sunny for over three (3) years failed to deliver containers of the products as stated in their agreement.

On March 27, 2022, Sunny was arrested by police personnel from the Police Headquarters in Accra but was later released after a brief detention in custody which the complainant (Mazen Farakh) described as being down under “very compromising circumstances”.

But, the Ukrainian business magnet and his Ghanaian partners are also worried about the justice delivery in the country as they claim that, some officers are exerting pressure and sleeping for the release of Sunny again.

Meanwhile, Mazen Farakh wants to recover his $6.5 million from the Nigerian criminal syndicate and is therefore appealing to the powers that be to ensure that, Sunny Anwamini is made to face the full rigors of the law.

The Ukrainian businessman is currently in the country to ensure that, Suny is brought to account to face the full rigors of the law.

Asisat Oshoala Wins Fifth African Women’s Player of the Year Award

The striker has been recognised after playing a key role in Barcelona’s title-winning season in Spain.

Nigeria and Barcelona talisman Asisat Oshoala has been named the 2022 African Women’s Player of the Year at the Caf Awards ceremony in Rabat on Thursday.

The 27-year-old picked the award ahead of Ajara Nchout Njoya (Cameroon and Inter Milan) and Zambia international Grace Chanda (Zambia and BIIK Kazygurt).

With this, she becomes the first African to win this prestigious for a record five times, overtaking Perpetua Nkwocha who claimed the accolade on four occasions.

The 2021-22 campaign was arguably Oshoala’s best yet as she played a key role in her Spanish side’s treble charge – the Spanish Women’s Super Cup, Copa de la Reina and the Primera Division.

Although, she missed a couple of matches due to injury, that did not stop her from emerging as league joint-top scorer after netting 20 goals in 19 league appearances to share the award with Brazilian Geyse Ferreira, who managed the same number of goals in 27 appearances for Madrid CFF.

Impressively, she scored a hat-trick against Real Betis and a double versus Real Sociedad, Valencia, Villarreal, and Real Betis.

In the Copa de la Reina, she scored in her only appearance in the tournament against Real Madrid.

Her side could have won a quadruple, but Barcelona lost 3-1 to Olympique Lyonnais at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.

Internationally, she contributed little as she did not score a single goal for the Super Falcons in the period under review.

To make things worse, she was ruled out of Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2022 with Nigeria through injury after suffering a medial collateral ligament strain in the West African’s 2-1 defeat to South Africa in Rabat.

Oshoala is the fourth Nigerian to land the women’s version of the award, following in the footsteps of Mercy Akide (2001), Nkwocha (2004, 2005, 2010 & 2011) and Cynthia Uwak (2006 & 2007).
