ANGOP launches multimedia portal

 Luanda - Angola Press Agency (ANGOP) launched Wednesday the multimedia portal, exclusively for the sale of special news products.



The new closed system service aims at raising own revenues, through the sale of exclusive content.

 

Internet users, who want to access the portal, in a first phase, are recommended to open the page media.angop.ao. In the next few hours, access should be made via a link to be made available on the normal portal.

 

ANGOP is committed to selling texts, audios, videos, infographic,
photographs, newslater and other journalistic content.

 

In addition to closed content for sale, the company plans to continue to freely disseminate institutional or public content.

Addressing a ceremony, Angop's Technical Administrator Amadeu Simão said that the new portal will allow the company to reduce the state's account, as well as provide agencies and internet users with the possibility of acquiring exclusive content.

 

He also said that the news will not have the same selling cost, adding that a comprehensive price list will be released.

 

ANGOP was created in July 1975, under the name Agência Nacional Angola Press (ANAP).

At first, the works were distributed in the form of a printed bulletin, until October 30 of the same year, after which it launched the first telegraphic dispatch.

 

On December 2, 1975, ANGOP adopted its current and definitive name “Agência Angola Press”, following the launch of its first dispatch, with the acronym ANGOP.

 

On February 2, 1978, it was transformed into a State body, through a presidential decree.

 

From the information point of view, ANGOP opted, in 1991, to issue its work 24 hour a day. ANGOP was created in July 1975, under the name of Agência Nacional Angola Press (ANAP).

 

At first, its dispatches were distributed in the form of a printed bulletin, until, on October 30 of the same year, the agency launched its first telegraphic dispatch, the date chosen for the company to celebrate its anniversaries.

African leader praises women in government bodies

 Luanda – The Chairwoman of the Pan African Women's Organisation (PAWO), Ms Eunice Ipinge praised on Wednesday the Angolan women by the fact that they are placed in important positions in the State apparatus.



The African leader expressed such appreciation to the press at the end of a meeting with the Angolan Parliament Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, in which they analyzed the role of the African organization to eradicate conflicts in Africa.

 

The Chairwoman of the Pan-African Women's Organisation expressed her satisfaction due to the fact that important bodies are being led by women, namely the National Assembly (parliament) by Carolina Cerceira and the Vice-Presidency of the Angolan Republic by Esperança da Costa, as well as Luísa Damião who is the Vice-President of the MPLA ruling party.

 

Women's Empowerment  

 

Eunice Ipinge revealed that with Carolina Cerqueira she also discussed issues linked to women's empowerment and the need to work towards a culture of peace on the continent.

 

To her it is necessary to raise the status of women through education, awareness, literacy and training.

 

The Chairwoman of the Pan African Women´s Organisation, added that women have political independence, but they need to empower economically and this is one of the impacts which must be taken to women in Africa.

 

At the meeting with Carolina Cerqueira, Ms Eunice Sipinge who is from Namibia, was accompanied by the PAWO regional secretary, the Angolan Luzia Inglês.

 

The Pan African Women's Organisation (PAWO) which was founded in 1962, has as its main aim the achievement of peace across the continent.

Vice-President considers positive Angola's participation in COP27

 Luanda – Angola’s Vice-President, Esperança da Costa, on Wednesday considered positive the country’s participation in COP27, where the nation’s vision on the great challenges related to climate change were disclosed.



"We had our direct participation at the plenary session of COP27, where we stressed our ideas and position on the major challenges of climate change", Esperança da Costa said, underlining that the country still has a long path to go through regarding this issue.

 

Ms Costa added that Angola is preparing all the necessary conditions to implement a recovery agenda that forces the country to review the strategies to ensure its sustainable development.

 

Angola has prepared a 2035 National Strategy on Climate Change, the politician said, adding that its main objective is to provide a nationwide adaptation and resilience, just as it occurred with most of the programmes of drought impact mitigation and other extreme events that have plagued the south of the country.

 

She went on to praise the construction of the Cafu Canal, which has the purpose of transferring water from Cunene River to the population, creating more availability for the development of agriculture, farming and the welfare of communities, especially cattle breeders.

 

Angola's Position and Clean Energy

During the participation in the plenary, in the COP27 side events, audiences and courtesy meetings, Angola stressed its position and alignment with the African group, showing solidarity with several countries that are adopting resilience initiatives, forest conservation, mitigation projects and carbon emission reduction.

 

However, for the Vice-President of the Republic, all these issues will only be done with the introduction of clean energies such as photovoltaic and wind power. 

 

"Our position is in favour of identifying durable solutions that will lead to combat this major crisis and impact of climate change", the vice-president said, having defended the production of green hydrogen at a time when there is a commitment from industrialized countries to implementing the Climate Action Fund to encourage the development of  technology-based solutions initiative.

 

Diplomacy

 

In terms of diplomacy, the presence was also fruitful with the holding of several bilateral meetings with African and European countries, having demonstrated the work in favour of sustainable development and diversification of the economy.

 

As regard funding, Angola has said its intention is to maintain it with the aim to give continuity to the projects and programmes that have been carried out so far with the support of agencies such as International Fund for Agricultural Development, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Bank.

 

"We want to work, above all, for the maintenance of sustainability. The World Bank is available to continue funding existing projects, but also looks to the new mandate, which aims to improve and ensure the well-being of the populations", she said.

Angola/Namibia sign Calueque Dam cooperation agreement

 Ombadja - Angola and Namibia governments signed Wednesday, an agreement on the regulation of the cooperation plan for the Calueque dam Located in Ombadja Municipality, southern Cunene Province.



The signing of the agreement was witnessed by the minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, and the Namibian minister of Agriculture, Water and Agrarian Reform, Carl Schletwein.

 

Built in 1976, the dam was rehabilitated in 2016 under an estimated value of 200 million US dollars.

The infrastructure has a storage volume of 475 million cubic meters, 18 meters of maximum height from the foundation, 12 bottom and 10 flood gates.

 

The project aims to supply water for human consumption, livestock and irrigation and guarantee road access through the bridge incorporated in the dam.

 

Speaking to the press, João Baptista Borges said the dam will regulate the flow of the Cunene River, to ensure the efficient production of energy at the Ruacana hydroelectric plant.

 

The Angolan minister informed that the dam will pump water to the Oshakati region through a pumping system.

"Because it is located in our territory, the two parties signed specific agreements for the operation of the enterprise and circulation of Nampower technicians, based on the lines defined in the agreement," the Angolan minister said. 

 

João Borges added that the Cunene River is the sole water resource of Namibia, being an important shared project for Angola, which represents an example of how to explore the water resources for the good of the populations. 

 

The Calueque dam has been  built on the bed of the Cunene river, intended for river regulation and to capture water for irrigation and public supply.

 

Calueque is located about 1100 m above mean sea level, on the south bank of the Cunene River, in the vicinity of the Calueque Dam, about 12 km from the Angola-Namibia border.

 

Calueque is a village of the Naulila commune, Ombadja Municipality, with 425 inhabitants. It is 193 kilometers away from the city of Ondjiva, capital of the Cunene Province.

Roller Hockey: Angola in quarter-finals of World Cup

 Luanda – Angola senior men's roller hockey team lost for the second time in the World Cup being held in San Juan, Argentina, and placed in the quarter-finals.



On Wednesday Angola were beaten by Spain 1-5, in a match of the third and last round of the first phase of the competition that is taking place in Aldo Cantoni pavilion, in San Juan.

 

After beating Mozambique on Monday by 5-1, Angola were also defeated by Argentina 0-4 on Tuesday.

 

After a 5-1 opening victory over Mozambique on Monday, Angola also lost to Argentina, 0-4, on Tuesday morning.

 

On Thursday, in the quarter-finals, the national team, third placed and in group B, will face Italy, second in group A.

Angolan General heads peace mechanism in eastern DRC

 Luanda - The Angolan Lieutenant-General Nassone João began Wednesday his duties as head of the Ad-Hoc Verification Mechanism, created for the pacification of the Eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).



The ad-hoc mechanism was adopted in July 2022, in Luanda, by the Tripartite Summit of Angola, DRC and Rwanda, in the framework of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).

 

To start his duties the Angolan military went to the city of Goma (DRC), with the minister of Foreign Affair of Angola, Téte António, who introduce the Lieutenant-General to the local authorities.

 

The visit of minister Téte António to Goma happens in the scope of the Angolan mediation towards the conflict between DRC and and Rwanda.

 

In that Congolese city (Goma), Téte António had separate meetings with the military governor of the North Kivu Province, who was accompanied by the deputy governor, the mayor of Goma and the commander of the 34th Military Region of Goma, the DRC National Police Provincial Commissioner, the 34th Navy Group, the governor main adviser and the commander of Goma International Airport.

 

Téte António took the opportunity to hold working meetings with the members of Goma Province Restricted Security Committee, as well as with the Commander of the ICGLR Extended Joint Verification Mechanism (EVM).

 

In Goma, which is a city with roughly 248,860 people, the Angolan Foreign Affairs minister also met with the representatives of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO)

 

Diplomacy seeks pacification for eastern DRC

 

Last Saturday (5 November), Luanda hosted a tripartite meeting of the heads of the Angolan, DRC and Rwandan diplomacies, with the aim of relaunching the dialogue between the Congolese and Rwandan authorities.

 

Saturday´s meeting in the Angolan capital city also aimed to resume the process of implementing the Luanda Roadmap of 6 July 2022.

 

In the wake of the same process, on 15 October, Ambassador Téte António presented Lieutenant-General Nassone João to the President of the DR Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, and also to the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame in Kigali.

 

From  20 to 21 July, Luanda hosted the Meeting of the Permanent Joint Commission between the DRC and Rwanda, which had not met for ten years.

 

Last July 6, in Luanda, the DRC and Rwanda heads of State, under the mediation of the Angolan President, Joao Lourenco, agreed on an immediate ceasefire and the creation of an Ad-Hoc Monitoring Mechanism, led by Lieutenant-General Nassone Joao.

Luanda - Angola’s Vice President Esperança da Costa said Wednesday that her government has intensified its commitment to the use of solar and wind energy in order to diversify the energy matrix aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.



Esperança da Costa said the commitment falls within the scope of the use of the country’s water resource to produce green hydrogen generated by renewable or low carbon energy,

Addressing a ceremony to launch digital green industry corridor, as part of COP27, underway in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, the Vice President said that the diversification of the energy matrix in Angola is in line with the commitment of Glasgow ( Scotland), on climate change.

In her speech, the official stressed the country’s commitment to the implementation of environmentally friendly industrial parks, through the territorial planning of areas to ensure continued growth of this type of projects.

As for the African countries, Esperança da Costa reiterated their commitment to increase their energy matrix to 70 percent of clean energy.

On the occasion, the Vice President of Republic highlighted the continent’s effort toward socio-economic and industrial development goals, which calls for accelerated progress.

She said that this was an accelerated progress toward expanding energy capacity and creation of jobs for young people, having warned of the need to invest in clean energy sources.

The official also noted that the investment must be complemented with a rapid absorption of natural gas, as a clean transition fuel.

In her speech, the Vice President of the Republic pointed to several challenges that restrict the processing role of gas in Africa.

She defended the expansion of gas infrastructure, the development of the sound energy plans and competitive gas markets.

Esperança da Costa considered it necessary to create initiatives to mobilise investments and financing for the private sector and promote the regional integration of natural gas markets.

As for the launch of the digital green industry corridor, she said it was an initiative promoted by the African Union to favor the adaptation of smart technologies by operators in Africa and create green jobs in urban corridors, for the continent's youth.
