Trump receives a “poisoned gift” on his 80th birthday
Donald Trump had hoped to celebrate his milestone birthday with the prospect of a historic agreement with Iran nearly finalized. Instead, the Middle East was thrown back into tension after an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, threatening to derail delicate diplomatic efforts.
Trump’s reaction
The U.S. president quickly responded on Truth Social, expressing visible displeasure at Israel’s operation and lamenting that the escalation came at such a decisive moment for regional peace.
“The attack should not have happened, especially on such a special day when we are so close to a peace agreement with Iran,” he wrote.
Call for restraint
Trump used the same message to call for an immediate end to hostilities, stressing that Washington and Tehran are “very close” to reaching an understanding.
He added:
“There must be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but also no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel.”
A warning and appeal
The president concluded with both a caution and a hopeful note:
“This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace — let’s not ruin it.”
