In a message on July 31 (African Women's Day), President João Lourenço said that the date "finds Africa plunged into a difficult struggle against the impetuous advance of Covid-19".

In this scenario, the message continues, the role and contribution of women, both in the front line of health care and within the family, are highlighted.

He stresses that the "fearless" African woman is once again put to the test "in a context where poverty tends to worsen due to the direct and indirect implications of the pandemic that plagues the planet".

Among the implications of the pandemic he pointed out "the abrupt increase in unemployment numbers among their peers, when they are not themselves affected by the instability of employment opportunities".

Finally, João Lourenço salutes women throughout Africa and in particular Angolan women, and reaffirms his confidence in their ability to deal with adversity.

The Parliament of Angola approves implementation of revised 2020 State Budget

The National Assembly (AN) approved this Tuesday the revised General State Budget (OGE 2020), with expenditure in the education and health sectors registering an increase in its share.

The revised OGE 2020, which foresees revenues of 13.5 billion kwanzas and expenses of equal value, was approved with 139 votes from MPLA and FNLA, 50 against from UNITA, six abstentions from CASA-CE and one from PRS.

The Minister of Finance, Vera Daves, indicated at the time that this is the possible budget given the country's current financial constraints.

In its explanation of vote, the MPLA said it welcomed the document to allow the Government to continue to implement programs that meet the wishes of Angolans, exemplifying the 1742 projects in progress, under the Integrated Plan of Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM).

According to MP Luísa Damião, this amending budget sends a strong and clear message that it is possible to transform the crisis into an opportunity to improve the quality of public spending.

She pointed out that the revised 2020 SGB pays special attention to the social sector, with particular emphasis on education and health, which has seen its share increase.

She also said that "there is a clear intention to protect families with lower incomes through the Kwenda programme", she said, criticising the opposition for never voting in favour of any OGE.

WHO says coronavirus by far its worst global health emergency

The new coronavirus pandemic that has infected more than 16 million people is easily the worst global health emergency the World Health Organization (WHO) has faced, its director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday.

Only with strict adherence to health measures, from wearing masks to avoiding crowds, would the world manage to beat it, Tedros added at a virtual news briefing in Geneva.

“Where these measures are followed, cases go down. Where they are not, cases go up,” he said, praising Canada, China, Germany and South Korea for controlling outbreaks.

Resurgences of the coronavirus in various regions, including where nations thought they had controlled the disease, are alarming the world, with deaths nearing 650,000.

WHO emergencies program head Mike Ryan said far more important than definitions of second waves, new peaks and localised clusters, was the need for nations around the world to keep up strict health restrictions such as physical distancing.

“What is clear is pressure on the virus pushes the numbers down. Release that pressure and cases creep back up,” he said, acknowledging, however, that it was virtually impossible for nations to keep borders shut for the foreseeable future.

Tedros emphasised the priority remained saving lives.

“We have to suppress transmission but at the same time we have to identify the vulnerable groups and save lives, keeping the death rates if possible to zero, if not to a minimum,” he said, praising Japan and Australia in that respect.

What is the individual contribution of African citizens to Africa's development?

We have just finished our webinar on this outstanding topic: What is the individual contribution of African citizens to Africa's development?

CONVERSATION GUIDE

1st Phase. Introduction to live and generic approach to the theme (Conceptualize and establish a relationship between citizenship and development).

2nd Phase. Current status of citizenship in Africa and more specifically in Angola.
How can we individually contribute to Africa's development?

3rd Phase. The causes that contribute to the deficient exercise of citizenship in Africa / Angola. To point ways and alternatives to overcome the difficulties that it will cite, outside of a revolution, if possible.

The role of youth in this process, and how it can impact state policy.

4th Phase. How to face the politics of fear?
How to improve the debate between African leaders and citizens?
What can each citizen in their daily lives do to improve these situations?

Extra questions for Sofonie Dala

Dear Sofonie Dala, according to your resume we have decided to elaborate these questions, which will be addressed to you during the debate.

Phase 2 - We know that you won the AUCIEFFA (African Union / Center for Girls and Women's Education in Africa - AU / CIEFFA) ideas contest. Can you tell us a little bit about this organization? How to access this institution? And how this type of organization helps to qualify the exercise of citizenship by Africans.

Phase 3 - You are a Peace Ambassador from the global peace chain. Can you tell us about this organization? How to become a member of the organization? How has this organization helped young Africans with regard to qualified action in society?

Phase 4 - We know that African youth find it difficult to discuss social problems as a team. Since you are a media executive, how can alternative media (social networks) help deconstruct this mentality?

Phase 4- You led a campaign recently that collected donations to help vulnerable people in this phase, under the motto “We are stronger than covid-19", after that you won a certificate from Unicef. What is needed to create these campaigns?

Can you teach us how to create a blog?

Angola may become Africa's 4th biggest economy

Angola may become, until 2050, the fourth largest economy in Africa, according to projections from the Institute for Studies and Security (ISS), based in Pretoria, South Africa.

According to ISS report, the country will have, until the aforementioned period, a nominal GDP of USD 994 billion, behind Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt.

The study points out that Angola may surpass Morocco and Algeria, if it overcomes challenges related to good governance, access to quality infrastructure, education and primary health care.

Titled "Scenarios for the future of Angola 2050 beyond oil", the 46-page report presents five sectoral scenarios and predicts that the Angolan economy will grow seven times more than the current USD 140 billion.

Drafted last March, without taking into account the repercussions of Covid-19 on the economy, the report says that Angola is currently the fourth largest low-income economy in Africa, but may, until 2030, surpass Morocco and Algeria in 2040.

According to the document, which makes an integrated assessment of how the various sectors (economy, infrastructure, energy, demography, agriculture and health) may develop until 2050, this growth begins in this decade, with an average annual rate 4.6 percent.

Angolan Ministry of Education assesses distance learning efficiency

Ministry of Education assesses distance learning efficiency

The upgrade of the TV and radio classes in the primary and first cycle (7th to 9th grade) education system were analyzed last Tuesday, in Luanda, at a meeting between the minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, and coordinators of the projects.

Face-to-face classes to resume in July.
During the meeting, which took place in one of the meeting rooms of the Ministry of Education, the secretary of State for General and Pre-school Education, Pacheco Francisco, said that the contingency plan drawn up by the Ministry of Education for occupying children's time at home, with the support of parents and guardians, was successfully completed.

"The TV and radio classes helped the students not to stop in their learning process", he underlined.

"There were seven weeks of classes, this from February to March (beginning of Covid-19), and we had to find some tools to occupy the children's time", he stressed, adding that holidays or educational breaks are good, but when someone leaves doing what is usual (taking classes) loses skills.

The secretary of State made it known that the selection of the 50 teachers who participated in the project was not easy, since some had difficulties in working in classrooms different from the usual one.

Pacheco Francisco also denied rumours circulated on social media that Cuban technicians are advising Angolan teachers in the field of the Portuguese language.

As for the return to face-to-face classes, he said they are working towards creating conditions for bio-safety, not only in schools but also in homes.

UN cargo plane carrying aid crash-lands in Somalia

Three crew members survive plane crash at Beledweyne Airport in central Somalia.

A United Nations cargo plane carrying humanitarian aid has crashed at Beledweyne Airport in central Somalia, officials said.

Sabrie Ahmed, from the local administration in Beledweyne town in the region of Hiran, told The Associated Press that the plane veered off the runway and crashed onto its belly on Tuesday, leaving thick black smoke visible for miles.

The three crew members survived.

The plane, flying from Djibouti, was delivering food aid for people displaced by heavy rains.

There was no immediate word on what caused the crash.

Ali Jeite Osman, the governor of Hiran region, told reporters that the plane caught fire after the crash.

He added that rescuers could not extinguish it as the airport lacked firefighting equipment.

“The plane crashed just as it landed. We managed to rescue three people before it burst into flames,” a resident in the area told local media, without giving any more details on whether there were other occupants inside the plane or not.

Aviation Safety Network, which monitors aircraft accidents, said in a statement posted on its official Twitter account that the plane was a “Kenyan DHC-8 aircraft [which] crashed and burst into flames at Beledweyne Airport, Somalia. Reportedly everyone on board survived the accident”.

Covid-19: Minister reiterates measures to leave Luanda

The Minister of State and Head of the Civil House of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, clarified this Saturday that the exits and entrances to Luanda are only admissible in cases of transport of essential goods and services and humanitarian aid actions.

https://images.impresa.pt/expresso/2017-06-23-luanda-1/original/mw-860

The Minister of State reiterated the measures contained in the Presidential Decree establishing the Situation of Public Calamity after noting a "less correct interpretation" of these rules aimed at cutting the transmission chain of Covid-19 in the country.

During the session to update the epidemiological situation of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours in the country, he informed that these exceptions, which add the exit and entry of sick people, apply to areas that are under sanitary fence, namely Luanda, and the municipality of Cazengo, Kwanza Norte.

"Many citizens, with all possible and imaginary pretexts, are causing difficulty for those who are truly covered to circulate in the framework of the exceptions," he regretted, reiterating that even government delegations on duty must conduct tests in advance before leaving these regions.

Regarding home gatherings for parties or similar activities, he said that the new rules do not allow for such gatherings to bring together more than 15 people, under penalty of fines.

Congratulations! Sofonie Dala launches her first academic-scientific book. The Geological structure of the Takula field and Prospects for Development and Production of Oil and Gas in Angola

Sofonie Dala is delighted to announce the launch of her first book.

Book title: The Geological structure of the Takula field and Prospects for Development and Production of Oil and Gas in Angola.

Click to appreciate the book

With the aim of helping thousands of international students, particularly Angolans, who study abroad, she decided to publish her thesis as a book in order to ease the lives of those students who have been struggling to find scientific and academic information about Angola in order to write their course work. This book was specially published to assist students taking courses in Mining Geology, Petroleum and Gas engineering and other related field.
The original version of the book is in Russian language and has been translated into multiple languages such as Portuguese, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Polish, Dutch, Finnish, French and other.

The book is available to the public in some online book store and will eventually be offered to all major distributors in the US and Europe. Go and pick up your copy!

A little about the book and the author

The object of this research is the geological structure of the Takula field and the prospects for the development of oil and gas production.

Sofonie Dala is an Angolan mining engineer, media executive and independent scholar, who pursues academic and intellectual activities by developing expertise in different areas of study. In one word she is a jack of all trades. She holds a Master's degree in Geology Oil and Gas and one Postgraduate diploma in Media Management and Leadership.

The lack of sharing information as a problem for the future generation

Writing about Angola presents some major challenges. One of them is the dearth of information. Largely because of war and general inaccessibility, there is a lack of information on such basic measures as economic performance, population, and socioeconomic conditions.

People Fear Losing Power. These behaviors have resulted in poor systematic ways of sharing information arising out of research within and among universities.
These challenges have contributed to long delays in the submission of student's final course monograph submission; in admission to PhD programs, approval of proposals, and examination of theses. Unfortunately, this tabu has been transmitted from generation to generation.

The same problem can be seen among employees in the company.Employees may be afraid that if they share their skills and knowledge, someone may take over their tasks and the employee will be replaced.

We are living in the information age. In the 21st century, thanks to the Internet, information is easy to share with our friends, neighbors, and perfect strangers.
Everyone knows that sharing information makes others’ jobs easier. You know something essential for your business and sharing it with another person means that they now know something essential for their business. Progress stands on the shoulders of giants.

Covid-19:ASSOCIAÇÃO DO ENSINO PRIVADO EM ANGOLA CONSIDERA ANULAÇÃO DO ANO LECTIVO

ASSOCIAÇÃO DO ENSINO PRIVADO CONSIDERA ANULAÇÃO DO ANO LECTIVO
