Isabel dos Santos, who has been away from Angola, was part of the Unitel board of directors for 20 years.

Unitel is the largest mobile telecommunications operator in Angola, with over 10 million subscribers.

The company has in its shareholders structure, besides the Vidatel, the Geni (25%) and Sonangol, which holds 50% of participation.

"After 20 years dedicated to the creation, development and success of Unitel, I chose to leave the position of member of the board of directors of the company", Isabel dos Santos said through a press release.

The businesswoman, who holds 25% of Unitel's corporate structure, through Cidadela, says that "the conflict installed in the board of directors, as a result of relations between shareholders, at a time when the Angolan economy and the telecommunications market are going through adverse economic conditions" is counterproductive.

In the note, Isabel dos Santos stresses that the company's board of directors should be occupied by dedicated people with a team spirit, committed to rigorous and productive work, for the interests of the company, employees and customers.

She points out that in the years in which she led the operator, Unitel grew and made an investment of over USD 5 billion in the network, equipment and professional training.
