Angola welcomes adoption of Doha Action Programme

Luanda - The Angolan authorities Thursday in New York (US) expressed satisfaction with the adoption of the Doha Action Programme (Qatar), which is focused on the eradication of extreme poverty in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

The Programme, for the decade 2022-2031, aims, among other aspects, to strengthen labour markets, integrate entrepreneurship, through global partnerships focused on sustainable development.

Angola's position was expressed by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Mission to the UN, João Gimolieca, at the opening of the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries- LDC.

On the occasion, the diplomat said that the adoption of the Doha Action Programme, at the conference, will lead to the beginning of its implementation, the Permanent Representation of the Angolan Mission to the UN said in a statement.

The document said that João Gimolieca said that the programme would be a support document for Angola, which is in the process of graduating and that it would make it possible to work on the National Strategy for Smooth Transition, which will culminate with graduation to a Middle Income Country, in February, 2024.

Ambassador João Gimolieca said that these actions should be focused on investment in human capital as well as on the power of science, technology and innovation, with a view to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
