Speaking to the press, at the end of the 38th Ordinary Session of the Organisation's Executive Congress, Téte António noted that this was a victory for all Angolans, especially on such a significant date as 4 February.

The head of Angolan diplomacy said it was a bet by the Government to include more representatives in international bodies.

As for what is expected of these cadres, Téte António said that it was to take the Angolan experience into the organisation, but also to learn how they work.

The choice of Angolan officials, endorsed by the southern region, took place during the work of the 38th Executive Council of the AU, which has been running since Wednesday, in virtual format, with the participation of Foreign Minister, Téte António.

Wilson Almeida Adão was elected in the second round with 41 votes (out of 37 needed), out of 10 candidates for seven vacancies, whilst Pascoal António Joaquim won out of 11 candidates for six vacancies, obtaining 46 votes (out of 37 needed), in the fourth round.

Wilson de Almeida Adão is a lecturer of International Law and African Rights at the Law Faculty of the Catholic University of Angola.

Pascoal Joaquim, assistant attorney general of the Republic, is a member of the Committee of Magistrates of the Public Prosecutor's Office and also a member of the Higher Council of Magistrates of that institution.
