Covid-19: Angola registers 56 new infections

Luanda - Fifty six new positive cases, one death and one recovery is the balance of the previous 24 hours (until Saturday), as announced by the Angolan health authorities last evening.

According to the secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, who was updating the data, ten cases were recorded in the province of Benguela, six in Huambo province and forty in Luanda .

Among the new cases there are citizens aged between 07 and 74 years old, 38 male and 18 female.

Regarding the death, Franco Mufinda said that he is a 78-year-old Angolan citizen from the province of Luanda.

The recovered patient is also from the province of Luanda.

In the country's treatment centres, 430 patients are hospitalized and undergoing medical follow-up.

Angola has 3,335 positive cases, 132 deaths, 1,289 recovered and 1,914 diseased.

Of the diseased, four are critical with invasive mechanical ventilation, 25 severe, 44 moderate, 62 have mild symptoms and 1,779 asymptomatic.

The COVID-19 pandemic is distressing the world’s stability and its economy. Angola is currently facing a study crisis similar to what several others are facing; which is not only impacting people's habits but also their ways of relating to one another. We are joining the AUCIEFFA to develop solutions to minimise the damage already caused by the pandemic and combining efforts to mitigate the current situation; which is by far the worst crisis of the 21st century.

Our today's guest is Miss Eulália Pereira, she is a Lecturer from Catholic University of Angola.

She states that, like other societies, Angola was not exempt from the economic and social impacts caused by Covid 19, the paralysis of classes showed that the Angolan education system was not prepared for non-classroom classes because there is a lot of difficulty in accessing the Internet and computer equipment on the part of many students and teachers. As a result of this students were left without classes and many teachers in the private sector were left without wages for the support of their families because the government is not giving any financial to private institutions.

According to her, teachers in this time of confinement should be empowered with new ways of teaching adapting to the new reality. Furthermore, the Ministry of Education should create and verify the conditions of Bio-safety in all schools before returning to classes and should also promote distance learning by creating technological conditions for it.

Covid-19: Manifestation against police brutality in Angola

Following the latest cases of police brutality in our Country during lock-down against defenceless citizens and many of which result in deaths, today an independent group of young Angolans have been promoting since morning a public manifestation called "No to police brutality".

The event brought together a large number of people who together repudiated the institutional violence perpetrated by some national police officers.

The event had as a concentration point the cemetery of Santa Ana in Luanda where the march began until the Independence Square, where the route culminated and people stayed in protest.

Covid-19: Social media has been bombarded with fake news about the end of coronavirus in Angola

Someone lied to these women that covid-19 is over, and that they can now walk around without masks, sell every day and do their business normally.

It seems that these women have not been watching the news on TV, radio and other media sources. Since they leave their homes early to go to work and return at night. 

The problem of misinformation

 

The truth is that the news was mistranslated. Due to the constant deaths caused by police officers, famine and other types of violence, the Angolan government has decided to make some changes in the state of emergency:

1) In the light of the new Presidential Decree on the extension of this period of isolation and social restrictions, the vendors are now authorised to sell, from Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and no longer only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

2) Under the new period of the State of Public Calamity that Angolans are beginning to experience, as of midnight on Wednesday (9 September), drivers are free to wear or not face mask.

Tragedy in Angola. Father kills the family because of hunger

This tragedy happened on Wednesday morning in the province of Benguela, Municipality of farta Bay, commune of Quimia.

The father left a letter saying that he lost his job because of covid-19, this caused a terrible hunger at home. His wife could not stand it, she abandoned him with two children.

Unable to support the family and the disappointment that the wife abandoned them, the victim murdered their two kids and then killed himself as well.
