Scientific Conference in Sumbe Promotes Research and Innovation in Health

Sumbe – The Higher Polytechnic Institute of Cuanza-Sul today opened the 2nd Scientific-Pedagogical Health Conference in the city of Sumbe. The initiative aims to promote scientific research, knowledge sharing, and recognition of the nursing profession, as part of the celebrations for International Nurses Day.

At the opening, the director of the Provincial Health Office of Cuanza-Sul, Nelson Camilo, paid tribute to the province’s nurses for their “professionalism, humanism, and sense of mission” demonstrated in their work. He emphasized that nurses are “an essential pillar of the health system,” being on the front line of care and providing comfort and hope to citizens.

Camilo reaffirmed the authorities’ commitment to continue supporting and valuing the profession, recognizing the impact of their work on improving health services.

The conference is held under the motto: “Our nurses, our future: empowered nurses save lives.” Discussions include topics such as nursing theories in comprehensive training and the nursing process as a work tool.

The president of the Higher Polytechnic Institute, Raimundo Kwaya, stated that the event seeks to demonstrate the scientific capacity of students and encourage the exchange of experiences among teachers, professionals, and researchers in health.

The coordinator of the nursing course, Felizardo Neto, explained that the conference aims to stimulate scientific research and innovation among students and professionals.

Participants will address issues such as primary health care in communities, hospitals, health centers, and clinics.

The president of the Provincial Nursing Council of Cuanza-Sul, Amadeu Octávio Papolo, congratulated the province’s professionals for their dedication and called for strengthening ethics and professional conduct. He noted that nursing in the province has improved thanks to increased academic training and the opening of specialization courses, which have allowed professionals to acquire new skills for better patient care.

According to data presented during the event, the Order of Nurses currently oversees around 4,000 professionals in Cuanza-Sul province.

The conference brings together teachers, students, health professionals, and invited guests.
