Ramiros – The Angola Government is working hard for the country to honour its environmental commitments, said Thursday in Luanda the minister of State and head of the Civil Office of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida.
Adão de Almeida was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 19th Meeting of the Attorneys General of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which is taking place in the Morro dos Veados district of Belas municipality and will last until Friday.
“Energy transition, by reducing the use of fossil fuels, is an example of sources of energy production and the adoption of environmentally friendly options, such as solar energy, which is already a reality”, stressed the official.
In this regard, Adão de Almeida as an example talks about the recent inauguration of the solar parks with great capacity in the centre-west province of Benguela and identical projects ongoing in other regions of the country.
To the Attorney General of the Republic of Angola, Hélder Pitta Gróz, there is a need to “protect the environment if we want to continue to exist as a species in the near future” and he also emphasized the importance of the motto of the meeting, which should be a reason for collective and the Portuguese community reflection relating to what we must do as guardians of legality and defenders of collective and mutual interests.
These issues happen, explained the Attorney General, in a particularly troubled time, in which uncontrolled economic growth tends to overshadow the need to ensure a sustainable planet.
During the event, it will be addressed topics such as “Illicit human activity as a factor in the degradation of parks, sanctuaries and nature reserves”, “The sustainable use of oceans for marine biodiversity conservation”, “Impact of hydrocarbon and other minerals exploration and the consequent liability for environmental damage” as well as “Assessment of the activity of the established networks in the scope of the Attorney General´s Office and Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, dynamization proposals for future, updating coordinators and contact points”.
Promoted by the Attorney General´s Office of Angola, the meeting is being attended by counselling judges and high court presidents, Attorneys General of the CPLP, magistrates of the Prosecution Department, members of the executive, the diplomatic corps and other guests.
