Central African Republic highlights Angola’s president role in search for peace

Luanda -Central African Republic (CAR) president Faustin Touadéra Saturday in Bangui praised the commitment of the Angolan Head of State João Lourenço to the search for a lasting solution to peace and security.

Faustin Archange Touadéra, who was speaking at the opening of the Strategic Review Meeting of the Political Process in CAR, mainly dedicated to assessing the degree of Implementation of the Roadmap, expressed gratitude for Angola's efforts towards stability in his country.

As part of the presidency of the International Conference on Great Lakes Region, in 2021 Angola hosted two summits of heads of state and government to discuss the situation and seek a regional solution (CIRGL).

During the Strategic Review of the Political Process in CAR, which brought together members of the Government, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Angola and Rwanda, respectively, as representatives of the CIRGL, reviewed the “state of the political commitments”, “progress, challenges and opportunities for the implementation of the roadmap”, with emphasis on the Declaration of Ceasefire, Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR), as well as the Security Sector Reform (SSR) and Control Strategies of Borders.

The meeting aimed to assess progress and challenges in operation of the Joint Roadmap and its implementation, with a view to mobilising strategic partners to explore ways to preserve the integrity of the peace process and increase the contribution from all stakeholders.

CAR has been mired in a situation of increasing insecurity since the coup d'état perpetrated by the “Seleka” group in 2013, which led to the fall of François Bozizė, former Central African president.
