Luanda – A ship carrying 30,000 tonnes of bulk sugar arrived Tuesday (28) in the country as part of the operation of the Strategic Food Reserve (REA), aimed at regulating the market and influencing the drop in product prices of the basic basket.
According to the management coordinator of the Angola Customs Warehouse, Eduardo Machado, from now on, one to two ships a week will arrive in the country, with an average of around 30,000 to 35,000 tonnes of products designated in the Strategic Food Reserve.
" Wednesday, another ship will dock at the Port of Lobito in Benguela with 35,000 tonnes of corn", he said, quoted by the country’s public television TPA as saying.
The Strategic Food Reserve went into operation last week, immediately placing on the market, already in this first phase, up to 354,000 tonnes of food, progressively increasing until reaching 520,000 tons, in a set of 11 products from the Basic Basket.
Among the products available immediately, we highlight sugar - in 50kg bags, rice - in 25kg bags and chicken - in 10kg boxes, waiting for corn, wheat and cassava flour, millet, cooking oil, beans, rice, iodized salt, dried fish and chicken.
REA will guarantee the acquisition, storage and distribution of more than 520,000 tonnes of food products, part of which are already produced and processed locally, in job-generating industries, with an impact on lower prices of up to 5% for the final consumer.
