Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp suffer outages globally

THIS JUST IN – Social media users across the globe have been shut out as Facebook and its subsidiary platforms, Whatsapp and Instagram are all experiencing outages.

Facebook put out a statement saying that they are aware that “some” people are unable to access their platforms, and that they are working to fix the problem. That statement was placed on Twitter suggesting that it is not “some” people but even facebook themselves cannot access their own platforms.

Twitter quickly used the occasion to poke fun at Facebook and arged people to dowmload its competing platforms.

The outages occurred about an hour ago which come at a bad time as the social media giant has been hauled to testify in Congress over a whistle blower accusation.

Frances Haugen has revealed that Facebook has known for years that its platforms have been used maliciously to spread hate and misinformation, but decided to look the other way.

According to Haugen, the leadership knew that reining in the malicious activities would spell a reduction in revenue because consumers stay longer on those platforms when the news is bad rather than when the news is good.

More on this developing story from DNT USA.
