ANGOLA REDUCES BIODIVERSITY LOSS, DEFORESTATION COEFFICIENTS



Luanda - Angola is seeking to reduce the loss of biodiversity and deforestation, strengthening the fight against poaching and degradation of natural habitats, said Saturday the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment, Jomo Furtunato.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop on the Convention on Biological Diversity, in allusion to the 22nd of May, International Biodiversity Day, the government official said that to mitigate these effects, the government encourages, in various ways, communities to reuse biodiversity in a way, disseminating information on conservation, restoration and importance of preserving biological diversity.

He explained that about one million animal and plant species are threatened with extinction, according to the 2019 global assessment report on diversity and ecosystem services.

"We are certain that biodiversity is the basis for a balanced future and we are aware that the quality of the water we drink, the food we eat and the air we breathe depend on the balance of a healthy nature, he said.
