Watch her story here:

Hello!

My name is Sofonie Dala, I am a girl’s rights advocate and I'm from Angola.

I am known worldwide for my social media activism on behalf of  victims of human rights violations and abuses, corruption, gender inequality, discrimination and gender-based violence.

Tell us about your "Project Stronger Than Covid-19"
The coronavirus, which causes the disease known as Covid-19, has killed thousands of people across the world and upended the lives and work of billions of others still lucky to count themselves alive. Governments across the globe have responded by imposing emergency rule and nationwide ‘lockdowns’, which force people to stay in their homes in a bid to slow down the spread of the virus.

As the impact of the lockdown, adopted to mitigate the coronavirus pandemic, has led Angola to fall into the grip of poverty and famine, I decided start Philanthropic Activities in order to support the most vulnerable people specially those affected by Covid- 19. This is to enable the poor have something to eat and also stay indoors.

In order to make my dream come true, I started designing my own t-shirt, the front side is written in Portuguese language and the back side is translated in English. When it got ready, I just rushed out into the street to share my love.

How did you get your UNICEF certificate?

It took me a week to complete all my tasks and submit on time.The journey was long and challenged, but useful. I really learned a lot. We were given several tasks covid-19 related challenges in Africa and we had to think critically and find logical, creative and innovative solutions for that. after we were evaluated by peers and also had to rate them.

At the end we had to submit a prototype task demonstrating one of the solutions founded:

PROBLEM

  •  Unpredicted emerge of covid-19 as pandemic

Challenges

  •  Although people were already facing acute hunger before, the suddenly emerge of covid-19, doubled poverty and acute hunger in my community over the last three months.

Solutions

1.      I decided to start Philanthropic activities in order to support the most vulnerable people specially those affected by Covid-19 during, and after of pandemic. I started offering fruits, bread, tea and masks to street people.

Benefit and improved future

1.      These solidarity activities will enable the poor have something to eat, protect themselves with masks and also stay indoors;

2.      The lack of humanity would be reduced, the world would look more lovely and kind;

3.      People would like to share their love by serving for needy people and participating in their day to day life and be a part of it.

I was so impressed with their innovative and interactive platforms; it gave me the opportunity to interact with other young people like me across Africa. They have brilliant ideas, if each of us would have someone to sponsor these ideas we would make Africa a better place to live in.

Every man has his own special dream
And that dream's just about to come true
Life's not as bad as it may seem
If you open your eyes to what's in front of you

Who does not live to serve does not serve to live
