Covid-19: Angola takes a cautious approach towards the use of dexamethasone as a wonder drug for the deadly virus.

In Angola, the announced benefits of dexamethasone have a cautious approach, although the Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta, does not put aside the possibility of the drug being used.

A pharmacist displays a box of Dexamethasone. Dexamethasone is a generic steroid widely used in other diseases to reduce inflammation.

Dexamethasone is being hailed as a breakthrough as the steroid has shown first signs of reduced mortality in severely ill Covid-19 patients.

Last Thursday, at the usual press conference to update the pandemic data, the Silvia Lucutuca admitted that dexamethasone is a corticosteroid widely used, also, in medicine. But, in her view, it should be used in very specific situations, because it is a membrane stabilizer.

“It is a good anti-inflammatory, but has some side effects, in very specific situations where the use of corticoid is necessary. When it is necessary, we will use it in situations of this nature” she stressed.
Silvia Lutucuta, reacted to the British experience in the use of Dexamethosan, by saying that the good results of others should be followed.
