FAF gets FIFA and CAF aid

 The Angolan Football Federation (FAF) will receive US$1.8 million from the International Federation of the Sport (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) due to the Covid -19 pandemic.

The information was provided by the president of the FAF, Artur Almeida e Silva, in a press conference held this Tuesday in Luanda.

According to him, yet in this month of August FAF will receive the first tranche of USD 1 million.

The second tranche, worth USD 500,000, will only be allocated in January 2021, through accountability.

As for the amount allocated by the African Football Confederation, Artur Almeida e Silva confirmed that it is USD 300,000, to be made available during the year.

Women's football will be entitled to USD 500,000, while each club in the first division will benefit from USD 16,000, from the second division USD 10,000. The provincial associations will receive each USD 12,000.

 The senior national team will benefit from USD 90,000.

According to the person in charge of FAF, only now the amounts will be available, since the degree of demand on the part of the creditors is quite strict with regard to the transfer of amounts.

These amounts will be distributed to clubs in the first and second division, the women's sector, provincial associations, training schools, professional associations linked to coaches, referees, beach soccer and indoor soccer.

Covid-19: 56 new infections, two deaths, six recoveries

 Fifty-six new positive cases of covid-19 have been detected in Angola in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 1.735.

The information was released Tuesday evening in Luanda by the secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, who said in the same period, the country reported two deaths and six recoveries, bringing the totals to 80 and 575, respectively.

Delivering the daily covid-19 update report, Franco Mufinda said the number of active patients has risen to 1.080.

According to the official, two of the new infections were detected in northern Cabinda province, following a local transmission.

Mufinda stated as well the newly infected are patients with ages between 19 and 59 years, involving 43 males and 13 females.

Musician Carlos Burity dies in Angola

  Angolan musician Carlos Burity died this Wednesday in a health unit in Luanda, victim of illness.

The author of songs like "Malalanza", "Tia Joaquina", "Tona Cashi", "Manazinha" and "Mucangiami", died at the Girassol Clinic.

According to the artist's agent, Maló Jaime, the musician was admitted to the Emergency ward, already in serious conditions , where he ended up dying.

Carlos Fernandes Burity Gaspar started his musical career in 1968 and recorded hits like "Ixi Iami" and "Recado" in 1974.

Born in Luanda, in 1952, Burity joined the pop-rock band "Five plus one" in 1968, with Catarino Bárber and José Agostinho, the last of the Duo "Missosso, with Filipe Mukenga.

In 1974 he recorded, with the Semba Group, a selection of Angolan musicians that remained in the history of Angolan Popular Music, his first single, which includes the themes "Ixi Iami" and "Recado".

Angola knocked out of chess Olympiads because of the poor internet connection

 Angola lost the World Chess Olympiads last Sunday in Luanda after one win, one defeat and a draw in the triple and last rounds of the third phase of the race.

The national squad beat Nigeria 6-0 in the 7th round, lost to Tajikistan 1-5 in 8th round and drew with United Arab Emirates 3-3 in 9th round.

After having been exempt from the first phase, due to the ranking and having completed the second phase, Angola had the internet as its main obstacle.

Angola, who integrated the group B, blamed the constant interruption of Zap Fibra signal for the consecutive defeats in the first six rounds of that period of the race.

However, although already eliminated the national squad played last Sunday just for honour.

Made of ten athletes, Angola dropped in 9th position.

Moved to the other phase were the counterparts of Portugal, IPC (teams of disabled athletes from different countries in the world) and Scotland.

Angola Olympics elimination blamed on internet

Angola is eliminated from the World Chess Olympics by losing consecutively due to lack of attendance, due to the successive drop of the internet signal, especially in the six rounds disputed, out of the nine planned, in this 3rd phase of the tournament (Group B).

In the online event, due to the propagation of covid -19, Angola finished undefeated in the 2nd phase, last week, but Friday, at the entrance of the third stage, faced an unforeseen opponent, the Internet, recording defeats until the imminent situation of victory.

This Saturday, the national team was again "victim" of the internet signal (Zap Fibre), losing with Botswana for the fourth round, by 0-6, for fall of the signal.

The same situation was repeated in the next two rounds, with Chinese Taipei losing to Round 5 (0-6) and Sri Lanka to Round 6 (2-4), in a game in which they were not allowed to lose if they wanted to qualify for the next round.

With zero points in the standings, even if Angola win Sunday's three challenges against Nigeria (round 7), Tajikistan (8th) and United Arab Emirates (9th) have no chance to continue in the competition.

The group, composed of ten teams, is led by Portugal with 12 points, followed by IPAC (team composed of disabled athletes -9 pts), Sri Lanka (9), Scotland (8).

Angola and Nigeria are the only teams that have not scored yet.

Africa prepares memorandum on extra technical assistance

 Finance ministers and central bank governors of Africa, including Angola, executive directors have drafted a Draft Memorandum 2020, which will be presented to the leadership of the Bretton Woods Institutions, to increase technical assistance.

The document was prepared at the end of the Caucus Africa meeting/2020, which took place through videoconference on August 6th of this year, according to a note to which ANGOP had access last Monday from the Ministry of Finance.

This memo aims to obtain support on issues related to increased external aid and effectiveness of assistance during the pandemic, increased availability of health services, education, water and social protection, as well as  strengthening of macro-fiscal and governance policies.

This aid also aims to strengthen markets, private sector and employment, as well as to increase the representativeness and voice of African states within the Bretton Woods Institutions.

At this meeting, the Angolan delegation was chaired by Finance minister Vera Daves.

At the gathering, the ministers and governors of the central banks presented in a joint and coordinated manner, the great and current concerns affecting the economies of the African continent.

The forum was held under the motto "Protecting Human Capital in the days of COVID-19: saving lives, preserving well-being and protecting productivity and employment".

Topics such as the Economic and Social Impact of COVID-19 in Africa, African Countries' Responses to the Covid-19 Pandemic, multilateral to the COVID-19 Pandemic, were addressed at the meeting, in addition to the elaboration of the synthesis of the African Caucus Memorandum 2020.

It is a preparatory meeting considered relevant for African member countries, aiming at a cohesive and effective participation in the annual autumn meetings of the Bretton Woods institutions.

Currently, and taking into account that several African countries are facing major economic challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting served fundamentally for a joint and assertive approach on the necessary measures and the most appropriate means to counter the consequences of 19.
