The World Bank Legal Vice Presidency (“LEGVPU”) offers highly-motivated law students an opportunity to be exposed to the mission and work of the World Bank and that of LEGVPU. The World Bank Legal Internship Program allows individuals to bring new perspectives, innovative ideas, and latest research experiences into the World Bank’s daily operations and improve their legal skills while working in a multicultural environment.

Requirements

Do you hold citizenship of any IBRD member state?
Are you currently enrolled in an LLB, JD, LLM, SJD, PhD, or equivalent program?
Do you have an excellent command of the English language?

Application period will commence on May 1 and end on May 31 (Proposed internship period is for 10-12 weeks, typically between September and November, depending on prevailing needs).
This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain professional experiences at the World Bank in the form of externships during the academic year while enrolled in a full-time law program or for those enrolled in part-time and/or evening law programs.

UNECA/Standard Bank Group African Women Leadership Fund Initiative 2020 for African Women Fund Managers

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and Standard Bank Group are calling on women fund managers across Africa to apply to join the African Women Leadership Fund initiative (AWLF), an innovative impact fund that will provide capital and expertise to successful candidates.

The AWLF Initiative has been established with the aim of uplifting female-owned and managed asset management firms and providing a defined economic stimulus to achieve sustainable economic growth in Africa. The fund, the first of its kind, aims to raise up to $1 billion over 10 years (€910 million or R19 billion) for women fund managers, who in turn will invest in high-impact businesses and projects across the continent, thus driving entrepreneurship.

Requirements

Under this first phase of the AWLF Initiative’s implementation, funding will be allocated to asset managers across North, East, Southern and West Africa. Allocations will be made with a view to achieving the best possible regional and geographic diversification.

Applicants must be female, reside in Africa or be willing to relocate to Africa, and need to have proven fund- or asset-management experience. They will be subject to an investment and operational due-diligence process that will need to be completed by the end of August 2020, with the first phase of the fund becoming fully operational in the fourth quarter of this year.
The second phase of the fund’s launch will be announced at a later stage and investments will be made into women-owned or women-managed private equity funds. The third phase will target first-time women fund managers through an Emerging Manager Seed Capital Programme.

Malaria: In Angola malaria kills more than two thousand people in less than 92 days.

More than two thousand people died in Angola from malaria. 

According to the Ministry of Health, from January to March this year, there was an increase in 467 deaths compared to the same period in 2019.

Data from the Ministry of Health shows that more than two million cases of malaria were diagnosed, it means 190 thousand cases more than in the same period last year.

In order "to prevent the spread of the disease during this period of coronavirus, sanitary authorities advise on the use of insecticide-treated nets and indoor residual spraying". 

A strategic plan to avoid the spread of malaria is being adopted.

Two babies and 12 mothers and nurses were killed in a militant attack on a hospital in Afghan.

How heartless and morally reprehensible one could be to even think such sheer evil attack on innocent children at the Afghan Hospital.

As the Covid-19 pandemic has unfolded across the globe, virtually no dimension of social life has been untouched—from individual decisions about safety to governmental decisions on public health and economic policy; from households to the workplace; and from technology-mediated human interaction under conditions of “social distancing” to the circulation, uses, and impact of information and disinformation. While essential public health and economic research in measuring and modeling Covid-19 and its effects is underway, the full range of the social sciences—its questions, analytical frameworks, and methods—needs to be drawn upon to understand the pandemic as a social phenomenon, and to inform responses based on knowledge of human interactions and institutions.

Requirements

The Covid-19 Rapid-Response Grants invites proposals from researchers who hold a PhD in any social science disciplines or related interdisciplinary fields. The grants offer research support for up to six months toward research-related expenses. These include, but are not limited to, access to data sets, archives and relevant publications, costs related to conducting online research of various kinds, and research assistance. Applications are welcome from any country around the world. Awards will range from USD$2,000 to $5,000, with the possibility of slightly more support for collaborative projects of two or more researchers.
