ICFJ/Facebook South Africa COVID-19 Local News Relief Fund 2020 for independent local publisher in South Africa ($140,000 grant)

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is partnering with the Facebook Journalism Project (FJP) to administer nine grants to independent local news organizations in South Africa that are producing quality journalism amidst the COVID-19 crisis. This grant program will provide urgent financial support for independent publishers with a special focus on investigative journalism and local news organizations that are providing trustworthy information about COVID-19.

Requirements

Discriminate based on race, gender, faith, national origin, sexual orientation or disability;
Carry on propaganda or otherwise attempt to influence specific legislation;
Influence the outcome of any specific public election or to carry on, directly or indirectly, any voter registration drive;
Be on a government web-based watch list of banned entities or employ, deal with, or otherwise be associated with any individuals on such lists, or aid or support any entities or whom it knows or believes to support terrorism;
Be a state media company, or a state-supported or funded news foundation; or
Be primarily a research organization, rather than a news organization.

Content creation is the process of generating topic ideas that appeal to your buyer persona, creating written or visual content around those ideas, and making that information accessible to your audience as a blog, video, infographic, or other format.

Put yourself in your audience’s shoes.

Investigate what your competition is writing about.

 As a content creator, you should always be aware of the topics your named and unnamed competitors are writing about in your space. Understanding how your competitors approach a topic will help you differentiate your brand’s voice, approach, and content from theirs, identify gaps in their content strategy, and help your content stand out in the sales process.

Angola recorded, in the last 24 hours, two more positive cases of COVID-19 from local transmission, the infected are a three-year-old child and an adult of 45 years of age. Reported on sunday, 10, the Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta. 

Thus, Angola totals 45 positive cases of Covid-19, with two deaths, 13 recovered and 30 active patients in the hospital.

The young man was killed for not wearing protection mask.

Antônio Vulola, 22 years old, was killed with a headshot when he was on the street enjoying his life with friends in the period of 21 hours, on May 9, in Rocha Pinto, Luanda.

According to reports: One of the police officers who was allegedly drunk questioned the young António Vulola why he was not wearing the protection mask...Humbly the young man replied that he did not have the mask, but when the police officer began to make excessive use of force, the young António Vulola tried to escape, and agent in an attempt to scare him, made three shots, one in the sky and two in the direction of the young man, which unfortunately one of the shots was assertive in the head of the young António Vulola that led him to death.

The young man left a wife and a son of only 5 days old.

I extend my deepest sympathies to his family. May the soul of this guy be at peace.

Significado da frase Os fins justificam os meios

O que significa a frase Os fins justificam os meios:

Os fins justificam os meios é uma famosa frase erradamente atribuída a Nicolau Maquiavel, que significa que qualquer iniciativa é válida quando o objetivo é conquistar algo importante.

Apesar de não ter proferido a frase em si, algumas pessoas fizeram essa interpretação com base na sua obra O Príncipe, onde Maquiavel indica que para manter o poder o Príncipe deve desenvolver características tidas como "não éticas", como a crueldade e hipocrisia.

Esta frase é comumente associada ao autor italiano graças a este trecho do capítulo XVIII da sua obra O Príncipe:

"...Nas ações de todos os homens, em especial dos príncipes, onde não existe tribunal a que recorrer, o que importa é o sucesso das mesmas. Procure, pois, um príncipe, vencer e manter o Estado: os meios serão sempre julgados honrosos e por todos louvados, porque o vulgo sempre se deixa levar pelas aparências e pelos resultados, e no mundo não existe senão o vulgo..."

Também no capítulo XVIII, Maquiavel revela que existem duas formas de combater: uma através das leis e outra através da força. A primeira forma é relativa aos homens e a segunda é adequada aos animais. Logo depois, o autor do livro afirma que um príncipe deve saber usar o seu lado homem e o seu lado "animal", ou seja, usar as leis e usar a força.

Muitas pessoas criticaram Maquiavel indicando que ele defendia a prepotência e abuso de poder. No entanto, alguns autores descreveram o livro O Príncipe como uma obra satírica que retrata o cinismo de uma nação governada por uma só pessoa.

Quando uma pessoa afirma que os fins justificam os meios, isso significa que ela está disposta a fazer qualquer coisa para conseguir algo que ela deseja alcançar.

Inicialmente essa frase era mais usada no contexto político mas depois foi transposta para as outras áreas da vida, onde pessoas acreditam que tudo é permitido quando você quer fazer alguma coisa importante. Muitas das coisas que são feitas por essas pessoas são consideradas reprováveis no âmbito da ética e moral.

O famoso escritor inglês Aldous Huxley afirmou que os fins não podem justificar os meios, porque os meios usados determinam a natureza do fim que é alcançado.

Vejamos um exemplo de uma pessoa que acredita que os fins justificam os meios.

Em uma empresa, abre uma vaga no Conselho de Administração. Depois de várias entrevistas, a escolha fica entre dois candidatos: A e B. O candidato A tem uma família para sustentar e aquela vaga vai possibilitar dar uma vida melhor para os seus filhos. No dia da entrevista final, ele esvazia os pneus do candidato B durante a noite, impossibilitando-o de ir à entrevista. Como consequência, o candidato A consegue o emprego.

O candidato A pode dizer que tinha um objetivo bom, que era dar uma vida melhor para os filhos. Neste caso, para ele os fins justificam os meios, porque para conseguir o emprego ele fez algo que é considerado errado para muitas pessoas.

Covid-19: Angolans violate covid-19 prevention rules because of hunger. Women become the main victims.

According to sources from one of luanda's cemeteries, before the declaration of the state of emergency, the cemetery was recording only 15 to 25 funerals daily, but now has risen to more than 50 funerals a day. Interestingly, these people are not dying of coronavirus. So far, Angola has recorded only two deaths from covid-19.

 What then is the main cause of death of these people?

"People are disobeying, because where there is hunger, laws are not respected." It was well predicted that coronavirus would increase hunger, crime and poverty in Africa, long time before this invisible enemy attacked the continent.

The prolongations of the state of emergency in the country have been a great punishment for thousands of Angolans, especially the most vulnerable. Which leads Citizens to put their health at risk when they go out on the streets to look for daily bread. The crowding of people continues to be visible, whether in leisure areas or in commercial establishments and banks, without maintaining the required social distance. Especially in the peripheral neighbourhoods, where people continue to circulate, "moving around in bars and tents work" as if nothing had happened.

It is impossible to comply with the rules of prevention in a country with low and bad quality of life. Women have been the main victims of this misfortune. Many of them are single mothers and street traders. If they do not go out to sell, they will not eat. We have witnessed daily beatings and murders of these ladies constantly by running over on the roads while trying to escape the police. These cops use force against them when they're found selling on the streets, as if not enough, they also steal their products. Moreover, at the end of the working day, many women are assaulted by their husbands inside the home. Unfortunately, the covid-19 pandemic also increases the rate of domestic violence that continues to be one of the leading causes of women's death in Africa.

A large part of the inhabitants works  in informal sector enterprise. The Social isolation has decreased a lot, i.e. it has cut off the income of these people. Food, sanitary products and biosecurity materials are very expensive. Poor people cannot afford.

Hunger plagues many families, cooking gas prices has increased and it is scarce, education is at risk, drinking water is lacking in peripheral areas for years, resulting in non-compliance with hygiene rules against covid-19. People are not washing their hands constantly. Many just take a shower in the morning and that's enough. We also observed an increase in the number of domestic violence, poverty and crimes of murder and theft. It should be noted that Angola does not have any food distribution system and also does not offer support to the neediest who often die of hunger and life disgust.

The office for Citizenship and Civil Society of the MPLA, is accused of being distributing to several leaders of the party in the power and friends of the office director Anabela dos Santos Dinis, basic baskets of food that were supposed to be destined to the most vulnerable people of Angola.

These corrupt leaders enter with their personal vehicle in the warehouses located near the headquarters of MPLA, where “PONTUAL” (advertising company of these comrades) is located and from there they are supplied with various food and biosafety goods.

Since the emerge of coronavírus pandemic in Angola, the funerals in the cemeteries rose from 10 to 50 burials a day. It is obvious that people are not dying from Covid-19 but rather because of hunger, domestic violence, home burglaries and other street crimes, which has increased significantly during coronavirus pandemic. These and other factors force Angolans to break the rules of prevention and go out into the streets in order to search for daily bread.

Coronavirus: A baby dies of hunger in Angola

The national lock-down causes the death of a 10-month-old child. 
 
It happened last week on April 24 in Luanda the capital of Angola. The death of a boy of just 10 months was caused by hunger. 

This fact shocked the neighborhood and who became aware of it. In the midst of the State of Emergency, the acquisition of goods becomes more difficult due to the exceptions adopted to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Due to extreme poverty, the lack of food has been a constant in many families, but this time the situation caused the death of a child under 10 months old.

The scarcity of food was so big that forced the mother to look for it in different places, but when she returned the boy had already died. The mother did not even have money to bury her son, and the neighbors joined in solidarity and bought a coffin, without having a means of transport, the mother carried the urn on her head to the cemetery, where she saw her son for the last time.

However, Angola still shows little respect for the freedom of expression laws. The TV show that reported this sad event was barred until further notice.
