The resumption of classes in the second cycle of secondary education, scheduled for July 13, is dependent on the endorsement of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), Education minister Luísa Grilo said last Wednesday, in Luanda.
Classes in general education have been suspended since the end of March, due to Covid-19, which has already caused 284 positive cases of infection, 178 active cases, 93 recovered and 13 deaths.
The government determined, in the Decree on the Situation of Public Disaster, that classes resume in three distinct stages, starting on July 13th , with university students and those from the 2nd cycle of secondary education (from 10th to 12th grades).
For the 27th of July, it is foreseen to restart the teaching activity of the establishments of the 1st cycle of secondary education (7th to 9th grades) and primary education (1st to 6th grades).
The reopening and operation of pre-school education equipment is subject to specific regulations, as directed by government authorities.
Within the scope of the Public Disaster Situation, in force since May 26, the Government announced the reformulation of the school calendar. In this context, it is expected that the lessons resume on 13 July to end on 31 December.
Speaking to the press at the end of separate hearings to the ambassadors of Portugal and Cuba to Angola, Pedro Pessoa and Costa and Esther Armenteros, respectively, Luísa Grilo said that only MINSA can determine whether conditions exist for this purpose.
According to the minister, conditions for secondary education are created, but everything will depend on the country's epidemiological situation. LuÍsa Grilo added that they are working with the provincial governments and monitoring the whole process, with indications that there are conditions of bio-safety in schools.
