Luanda - Angola is participating since Friday in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Turkey, which is taking place under the slogan "Innovative Diplomacy: New Era, New Challenges.
The event, which is being held under the auspices of Turkey's President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is an initiative of the Turkish government with the aim of providing a platform for political, economic, bureaucratic and intellectual leaders who deal with diplomacy.
The forum, attended by the Angolan ambassador to Turkey, Jose Patricio, brings together heads of state, foreign ministers, representatives of UN international bodies, academics, businessmen and youth.
During the opening ceremony, the President of Turkey pointed out that today, diplomacy cannot be done behind closed doors or with closed fists, taking into account the new actors and instruments of this era of new technologies in which digital, cultural and tourist diplomacy are emerging.
Critically alluding to the current inequitable and unfair multilateralism, Recep Tayyip Erdogan used the phrase "the world is bigger than five", referring to the five members of the United Nations Security Council who have the power to decide on the more than 190 member states of that international organisation.
António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, defended a more inclusive and united multilateralism, taking into account current challenges such as the Covid 19 pandemic, terrorism, climate change, poverty and immigration.
For the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, multilateralism is not an option but a necessity, since no one is safe until everyone is safe, underlining that in this pandemic everyone is in the same boat.
