Minister admits problems in primary schools

Education minister, Luísa Grilo on Thursday in Luanda admitted the existence of primary schools with precarious biosafety conditions, at a time when there are only three days left before the resumption of classes in person.

Speaking at an extraordinary session of the Unesco Global Meeting on "Education," held by videoconference, she explained that, for this reason, a hybrid model had been opted for in the country, alternating in person lessons with distance learning.

"It was necessary to reorganise the teaching schedules and classes, organising them into sub-groups of up to 30 pupils each and shifts of two hours and 30 minutes, to avoid children staying too long in school and to guarantee physical distancing," she said.

According to the government official, to ensure the continuous learning of pupils at the time of Covid-19, biosafety conditions were created in the schools, as well as tele and radio lessons, allowing a larger number of children to be reached.

Thus, she said, the training of teachers has been permanent, to adapt into the new reality and ensure that the learning cycle takes place safely.
