Angola: Media minister re-inaugurates ANGOP editorial office. ANGOP bets on multimedia content

The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media, Manuel Homem, re-inaugurated on Tuesday, in Luanda, the National and International Editorial Office of the Angola Press Agency (ANGOP), which has a modern office and new technological means.

ANGOP also presented its new logo and launched new portal, which will be available during this semester.

With the rehabilitation of the offices, the agency has now a modernized the infrastructures for its national and international editorial office and the Technical sector.

The National and International Departments almost complete changes were made such as the increase of spaces and, computers, television and other means to support journalistic activity.

According to the executive director for Journalistic Contents, José Chimuco, the agency aims to improve production, increase multimedia content, develop provincial delegations and recruit new correspondents, in view of the forthcoming local power elections.

In the technical and technological field, the data and navigation capacity has been increased from 12 to 50 megabits and from one to two terabits of space to 16.

"Unlike in the past, ANGOP currently has no longer falls in the signal, it controls," said the technical administrator of the technical sector, pointing out that all the provincial delegations are connected online and can overcome any malfunction from the headquarters in (Luanda).

The Angola Press Agency (ANGOP) is a public news agency, whose aim is to collect, treat and distribute, on an exclusive basis, both in Angola and abroad, news, based on objective information on national and international news.

Created in July 1975, it provides news services in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish languages, since February 2000 it has been broadcasting via Internet, which is a more effective means of distribution with direct contact with the public.

Speaking at the launch of the new logo and re-inauguration of the National and International departments, Isaias said that the idea is to enable the staff to produce diverse range of multimedia products, which will be available to traditional and potential new customers through a new portal to be launched soon.

"The future of the world's news agencies is multimedia and, for ANGOP, this represents a long and not easy path to follow. However, ignoring it will be worse for our agency, and it would be fatal for it to remain in its current traditional state", the CEO said.

The ANGOP’s CEO also stressed that the initiative to launch a new logo is linked to the need the news agency has to adapt to the marketing strategies to be adopted in the face of the current challenges.

"This is the effort of restructuring and reorganization of ANGOP that the Board of Directors is carrying out, whose actions go through a process of improvement of the working, remuneration and social conditions of the workers and the revitalization of the journalistic production", Isaias said.

In this way, added the CEO, in the framework of the improvement of the working, remuneration and social conditions of the workers, a readjustment of salaries has already been made, an occupational qualifier has been drawn up, health insurance has been granted and an insurance for accidents at work and professional illnesses has also been established, extending to all workers in the headquarters and in the provinces.

The ANGOP CEO also highlighted the works carried out in its Social Centre, which profoundly changed its configuration, during which the kitchen, bar, self and kitchen workers attended specific courses that has produced improvements in the work performance and providing greater dignity to the workers.
